Part of living a sustainable lifestyle is also making more eco-conscious choices when it comes to our pets. However, that can get a bit difficult and go against many pet owners' desire to spoil our pets. Fortunately, we now have some more eco-conscious options. From collars and leads to toys and grooming, brands are now coming out with products that are made sustainably and can be disposed responsibly.

One of these companies is dog grooming brand DOG by Dr Lisa. Their product line includes a wash, leave-in conditioner, wipes, colognes, brushes, drying ponchos, and other miscellaneous items such as belt bags and poo bags. The brand's mission is to "create a product range that is natural and safe for dogs and the humans who love them" while ensuring they "minimise harm to our planet".

We reached out to the brand and in this post we'll be sharing with you eco conscious dog lovers what we know about DOG by Dr Lisa.

OWNERSHIP

DOG by Dr Lisa PTY LTD was founded by Dr. Lisa Chimes, who some of you might know from the popular series Bondi Vet, or her own series Dr. Lisa to the Rescue and her appearances in various other TV shows, print and digital media, and radio. She's a practicing Australian veterinarian who works in the emergency and critical care department at the Small Animal Specialist Hospital and a regular guest and MC on the pet expo circuit.

INGREDIENTS & RAW MATERIALS

DOG by Dr. Lisa's bath products, wipes, and colognes are all vegan and free from the well-known nasties such as parabens, PEGs, phenoxyethanol, phthalates, SLS, SLES, petrolatum, mineral oils, silicones, MEA, DEA, TEA, EDTA, propylene glycol, and synthetic fragrances/colours.

Their brushes are made of bamboo and their ponchos are made of bamboo cotton. The choice to use bamboo is definitely a better option than traditional materials such as virgin timber, it does not come without a few issues. All up though, we do think the effort to find more sustainable materials to produce these products is great, and using bamboo instead of virgin timber is definitely a better option by miles and miles.

(If you want to learn more about the sustainability and the issues that come with the use of bamboo, here's a great 15 minute read to get started)

The poo bags in the brand's range is plastic free and made from cornstarch and do not come with an internal stick (yay for less waste!).

As for their belt bags, the adult sized ones are made of designer nylon fabric with an internal silicone pouch for treats. The kids belt bags are made of 100% cotton and also has a silicone pouch. The bags' internal silicone pouches are dishwasher safe.

They are, unfortunately, not yet certified cruelty free as they are still currently in the process of getting their certification. We will be updating this post when they gain their credentials.

The brand also has a list of all the ingredients used in each product on the respective product pages, so if you want to take a closer look at what's in them, you can do that very easily.

SOURCING & PRODUCTION

DOG by Dr. Lisa is based in Sydney, Australia. Their bath products and colognes are all made in Australia while their compostable wipes are made in New Zealand.

It has not been disclosed to us where the rest of their products are made. We will update this post if/when we receive this information.

PACKAGING & RECYCLING OPTIONS

The brand's entire line has been packaged quite consciously. Their liquid products are all packaged in aluminium bottles, which are both highly recyclable and reusable. The packaging for their wipes is also recyclable. And speaking of their wipes, DOG by Dr. Lisa wipes are also 100% biodegradable and 100% compostable according to OECD 311 standards so these will break down when buried in the garden or chucked in a home compost bin. If the wipes do end up in landfill, they will break down completely as well. Their shipping boxes and packing material are also all recyclable. Their poo bags are also 100% biodegradable and compostable.

DOG by Dr. Lisa also offers refills! They have 1 Litre refill options for their Wash and their Leave-in Conditioner which are all packaged in soft aluminium.

GIVING BACK & ADVOCACY

According to their website, an undisclosed percentage of the brand's profits are donated to the RSPCA.

DIVERSITY & INCLUSIVITY

According to a brand representative, the DOG by Dr. Lisa team is made up of 70% females and 30% males with 12% identifying as an ethnic minority.

As a dog owner myself, I know how much we want to pamper and spoil our dogs and it's nice that we now have options that allow us to do that without feeling guilty about waste. If you like the sound of the DOG by Dr Lisa products, check out the the full range on their website.
